What We Believe
Statement of Faith
These are the core beliefs that unite us as a congregation — grounded in scripture, held in faith, and lived out in community.
"Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."
Romans 10:17
The Holy Scriptures
We believe that the Bible is fully inspired by God, that it is entirely trustworthy and is our guide for faith and life.
2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:21
The True God
We believe that there is one true God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19
The Lord Jesus Christ
We believe that God expressed Himself in human form through Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary and lived a sinless life. We believe He was crucified for the sins of us all, rose again from the dead and ascended to heaven.
John 1:1, 14, 18; Matthew 1:23; Philippians 2:5–11; Acts 1:9–11
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the trinity, dwells in every believer immediately after he places his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and that God provides, through the Holy Spirit, power to live the Christian life.
Romans 5:5; 8:1–9; Galatians 5:16–25
Spiritual Gifts
We believe that every believer receives grace from God in the form of a spiritual gift, which enables him to function as a member of the body of Christ.
Romans 12:6–8; 1 Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:7
The Local Church
We believe that local churches, such as Medical Center, gather for practical instruction in the scriptures, for fellowship with God and with other believers, and for corporate witness to the unsaved world. Our common spiritual goal is to grow toward "Christlikeness".
Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 2:42–47; Romans 12:5; Ephesians 4:13–16
The Ordinances
We both believe and practice the two ordinances Christ instructed the Church: (1) Water baptism by immersion after repenting of one's sins and receiving the gift of salvation. And (2) Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ's suffering and death for our salvation.
Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24–26
Marriage
We believe that marriage is God-ordained. "The creator made them male and female, and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'." Marriage is to be an exclusive relationship, a lifelong faithful union between a man and a woman. This relationship between a husband and wife should parallel the relationship between Christ and the Church.
Matthew 19:4–5; Ephesians 5:23–30
